On Wednesday, September 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., join the Hemlock Restoration Initiative for a walk around the Corneille Bryan Native Garden in Lake Junaluska to learn about the efforts to protect hemlocks from HWA. We will discuss hemlock trees in our Western North Carolina ecosystems and how HWA is threatening them. This informational walk will give participants ‘on the ground’ experience with identifying North Carolina’s two native hemlocks, assessing tree health and deciding how best to manage hemlocks on their own properties. We will also discuss what governments and conservation organizations are doing to restore hemlocks to long term health in our state, highlight an integrated strategy for hemlock conservation, and let folks know how they can get involved in native hemlock conservation.
Please sign up before the event by contacting the HRI office at 828-252-4783 or info@savehemlocksnc.org. Learn more about the Corneille Bryan Native Garden on their Facebook page.
