Join HRI staff for treatment volunteer opportunities Nov. 2 – 4 in the Grandfather Mountain/Linville Falls area and Nov. 15 – 19 in the Curtis Creek area north of Old Fort, NC within Pisgah National Forest.
We are looking for a few volunteers to join HRI staff each day.
- Tuesday, Nov. 2 — Linville Falls
- Wednesday, Nov. 3 — Grandfather Mountain Profile Trail
- Thursday, Nov. 4 — finish up at these sites
- Monday, Nov. 15 to Friday, Nov. 19 — various locations around Curtis Creek
These locations are loaded with hemlocks in varying stages of health. Many trees in the Linville Falls and Curtis Creek areas are re-treatments of trees treated by the USDA Forest Service in the past. The Grandfather Mountain State Park trees were previously treated by the State Park staff and are also ready for re-treatment.
The Curtis Creek locations are particularly obtainable because the trees are easy to get to, the terrain is gentle, and the trees are plentiful. We could use some extra hands to get them all retreated and keep the campground and surrounding areas looking their best.
