Join us in Nantahala National Forest near Highlands, NC for a hemlock treatment volunteer workday on Thursday, November 13th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. (Note: this event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, November 11th.)

Hemlock trees are an essential and irreplaceable part of western North Carolina’s forests, but for over 20 years, they’ve been under threat from the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)—an invasive insect that can kill hemlocks in our region in as little as four years.

Help us protect these hemlocks from HWA at the beautiful Van Hook Glade Campground along the Cullasaja River and Cliffside Lake – a great spot for someone wanting to treat hemlocks on the more accessible terrain of a campground.

Please note, volunteers will be working with insecticide and moving through the forest off trail. Every volunteer will be paired with an experienced, licensed professional who will provide instruction and guidance.

Registration is required. To register, fill out this form by Thursday, November 6th Monday, November 10th at 3:00pm. More details about meeting location and what to bring will be provided after registration. Reach out to Ayla at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org or (828) 252-4783 with any questions.

Note: Since we will be working with insecticide, children under 18 and pets are not permitted at this event.
