Join staff from Hanging Rock State Park and the Hemlock Restoration Initiative to help protect the hemlocks in the Moore’s Wall area of the park. On our work days, we treat hemlocks with insecticide to protect them from hemlock woolly adelgid. Every volunteer will be paired with an experienced, licensed professional who will provide instruction and guidance. Read more about this kind of work day here.

On this work day we will be treating the hemlocks with a tablet form of insecticide called CoreTect. This is an easy and convenient method for landowners to use on their own property.

If you’d like to volunteer, please RSVP by Friday, February 10 by contacting Thom Green at info@savehemlocksnc.org or (828)-252-4783. Please include a contact phone number and email address when you sign up. More details will be provided by email.

HRI and State Park staff will be treating in other areas of the park the rest of the week and later this spring, so if you aren’t able to make it on this work day but still want to help please email us.

The Hemlock Restoration Initiative is grateful to be able to offer public events in this difficult time. Despite the lifting of restrictions, we acknowledge the risk that COVID-19 continues to pose to members of our community. To maintain the safety of our event participants and staff, we are requiring that all participants follow HRI’s COVID-19 safety guidelines. Anyone not following the guidelines on the day of the event will be asked to leave. Despite taking precautions, we cannot eliminate all risk of exposure and participants will be accepting some level of risk by choosing to attend. Please review the COVID-19 safety guidelines on our website to ensure that you are comfortable following these guidelines. Note: these guidelines may adjust depending on changing guidance from health authorities.
