Join us in Pisgah National Forest in the Grandfather Ranger District near Lenoir, NC for a hemlock treatment volunteer workday on Thursday, December 11th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Hemlock trees are an essential and irreplaceable part of western North Carolina’s forests, but for over 20 years, they’ve been under threat from the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)—an invasive insect that can kill hemlocks in our region in as little as four years.

Help us protect these hemlocks from HWA at the beautiful Boone Fork Campground – a great spot for someone wanting to treat hemlocks on the more accessible terrain of a campground. While this site will have have lots of gentle terrain, there are also some parts with steeper slopes for those excited to do some scrambling!
Volunteers will be moving through the forest off-trail applying insecticide to individual hemlocks for HWA control. Every volunteer will be paired with a trained HRI team member who will provide instruction and guidance.

Registration is required. To register, fill out this form by Monday, December 8th at 3:00pm. More details about meeting location and what to bring will be provided after registration. Reach out to Ayla at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org or (828) 252-4783 with any questions.
Note: Since we will be working with insecticide, children under 18 and pets are not permitted at this event.
