On Monday, November 19th, the Hemlock Restoration Initiative hosted a hemlock treatment training workshop. The workshop took place at Big Rock Creek Preserve in Mitchell County, a property protected by the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC). The HRI team trained SAHC staff, AmeriCorps Project Conserve members, and local landowners how to easily treat hemlock trees infested with hemlock woolly adelgid with a systemic chemical insecticide.

With an educational presentation, demonstration, and hands-on treatment practice, the group treated 100 hemlocks on Big Rock Creek Preserve! These trees will be protected for years to come, and the land trust staff can apply their new knowledge to treat hemlocks on other conserved properties.
