The Hemlock Restoration Initiative in partnership with the Transylvania Creation Care Fellowship will host a demonstration of chemical treatment methods to control the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) on Saturday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at Holmes Educational State Forest. Today hemlock management is simpler and less expensive than ever before!

Participants will practice assessing hemlock health to determine the best treatment options, and HRI staff will demonstrate HWA chemical treatment. We will use the trees on-site to demonstrate and explain a variety of methods available to all landowners in North Carolina. We will discuss ways to reduce environmental risks from hemlock treatment. We will also go over hiring a tree care professional to do hemlock treatment. Participants will also receive a link to a series of short videos covering background information relevant to the training.

NC pesticide applicators can earn 3 credits for attending (categories G, L, N, D, and X). ISA members can earn CEUs for Certified Arborist, Municipal Specialist, and BCMA-Management categories. Contact us with any questions.

The program is free, but registration is required. Please sign up by Sunday, May 14. Email info@savehemlocksnc.org or call 828-252-4783 with questions about the event.
