The Hemlock Restoration Initiative’s partners in the North Carolina Forest Service Nursery and Tree Improvement Program have successfully grown hemlock seedlings at their Linville River Nursery, and the seedlings will go on sale to the general public on March 4th, 2019.

NCFS grew Eastern and Carolina hemlocks, both of which are native to North Carolina and are threatened by the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA). Although these seedlings are not resistant to HWA, they are easy to treat and manage, especially at this size, and some types of chemical protection can last for 5 or more years.
Congratulations to NCFS for their successful seedling growth! To read more about this project and learn how to purchase the hemlock seedlings, visit http://info.ncagr.gov/blog/2019/02/27/n-c-forest-service-grows-hemlock-seedlings-for-the-first-time-limited-supply-available-for-sale-march-4/.
