In collaboration with partners: Transylvania County Cooperative Extension Service, Transylvania County Natural Resource Council,  Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy and the Hemlock Restoration Initiative, Transylvania County is launching a program which will assist private land owners by providing a 50% match for the cost of chemical treatment performed by a participating, licensed contractor.

10-15 years ago when the problem of HWA was initially identified in Western North Carolina the cost of chemically treating trees was prohibitively expensive.

Today the cost of treatment is a fraction of the price, new dosing guidelines mean that less chemical is needed to effectively treat a tree and treatments need to be preformed less often. This is all great news for private land owners with hemlocks!
