The Cradle of Forestry Forest Festival is a day of celebration and education that is fun for the whole family! The main event of the festival is the John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Meet, showcasing such events as team log rolling and axe throwing! Wood carvers, weavers, and other demonstrators will present their skills and craftsmanship.
The Hemlock Restoration Initiative will also be on display at a booth where we will provide information about the plight of our native (eastern and Carolina) hemlocks, potential solutions to the problem of HWA infestation, and how you can get involved. We will highlight the efforts of our partners, the NC Forest Service, the Forest Restoration Alliance, the Blue Ridge Resource Conservation & Development Council, and others, to chemically protect trees on public lands and to breed HWA-resistant hemlocks and beetles that eat adelgids.
